The Finnish Chamber of Commerce in China is being formed. The application documents were submitted in June 2009 and we expect to be awarded Chamber of Commerce - status early 2010. Thus, we are now preparing also our web presence. This site is very much under construction, and will be so until end of December.
Feel free to browse around, but please excuse the mess - this site is NOT yet open for business.

In the morning of December 16th the Finnish yacht “Team Finland” entered the harbor of Gerladton-Greenough in Western Australia. The ship, lead by Eero Lehtinen narrowly beat its closest rival “Spirit of Australia” by only half an hour. This third leg had started from Cape Town, South Africa in late November.
This victory puts “Team Finland” in a good position as it already before this leg lead narrowly over its Australian rival. The next leg of the race will bring the fleet to Qing Dao, China around the 20th of February. Altogether the around the world race which started in Humber, UK, will have 7 legs. The race is expected to end when the fleet arrives back to its starting point in July 2010.

COMMENTARY: After three years of slow appreciation the Chinese Central bank stabilized the USD/CNY ratio at 6.83 in August 2008. Now the debate is about when the current "peg" will break.
The other day Shanghai Daily reported that the central bank had imposed new rules limiting the splitting of individual foreign exchange transactions. These tricks were used to circumvent the USD50k annual limit on individual influx of foreign currency to China. This measure is yet another signal of the Central Bank's battle against hot capital and the increasing debate on when and how the current peg of CNY to USD will be broken.
