Helsinki has been chosen as the design capital in year 2012.
The Dutch town of Eindhoven was the second city in close race.
Helsinki applied for the title together with neighboring cities, Espoo and Vantaa. Altogether 46 cities from 27 countries applied for the title.
The title of Design Capital of the World is awarded every second year.

CHINA FOCUS COMPARES OLD AND NEW DRAFT REGULATIONS OF SETTING UP REPRESENTATIVE OFFICES IN CHINA.
A Representative Office ("RO") is often the first step for foreign companies to enter the Chinese market as it gives them a legal presence to conduct (limited) business in China.
The regulations governing RO date back to 1983 ("1983 Provisions"). The State Administration for Industry & Commerce has recently released a draft of new regulations ("Draft Provisions") and we would like to highlight some main aspects.

The Finnish Community in China builds a primary school in Sichuan
A truly unique charity project has been taken to its conclusion. The construction of a primary school in Sichuan has been completed. The opening ceremonies of the school were held in GuiYuan village in Guanghan city, Sichuan on September 29th.
To commemorate this event the project celebrated the opening of the school on site in GuiYuan village in Sichuan on Tuesday September 29th 2009 in the presence of 20-some representatives of donors, local officials, and hundreds of inhabitants of GuiYuan village. The Finnish Embassy in Beijing was represented by Minister Mr. Kimmo Lähdevirta, who in his speech recognized and commended the spontaneous and private initiative taken by the project members.

In order to set up the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in China the founding Business Councils and the FinnCham task force have agreed to appoint a acting board.
The first official board will be elected during the spring of 2010 at the first Annual General Meeting of the chamber.
The chairman of the acting board is Mr. Richard Järvinen, chairman of the FBCB. Also representing Beijing are Mr. Mikko Harju and Mr. Pasi Vainionpää.
The Shanghai Business council has appointed Mr. Tero Kosonen, Mrs. Liisa Veijalainen, and Mr. Oskar Helling as their representatives to the board.
Guangdong is until further notice represented by FBCGD chairman, Mr. Mike Tavast.
