Bio of Dr. Knut Anton Mork
Knut Anton Mork received his undergraduate training at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977. Upon work as a Research Associate at the M.I.T. Energy Laboratory from 1977 to 1981, he served on the faculties of the University of Arizona from 1981 to 1983 and the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University from 1983 to 1990. After returning to his native Norway in 1990, he spent two years at the Centre for Research in Economics and Business Administration (Stiftelsen for samfunns- og næringslivsforskning, SNF, part of the NHH group) in Bergen. From 1992 to 1994 he served as a full professor at the Norwegian School of Management (Handelshøyskolen BI) in Oslo, where he continued to hold an adjunct appointment (professor II) until 1997. Upon leaving academia in January of 1995 he first joined the economics staff of the Union Bank of Norway (Sparebanken NOR, SPN fonds), before moving in September of 1996 to Handelsbanken as Chief Economist for Norway. While devoting his main attention to market developments, he maintains close contact with an international network of leading academic economists.
Dr. Mork’s research has been in the areas of macroeconomics and energy economics. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to the understanding of oil price shocks and their effects on macroeconomic performance. He has also made important contributions to the research on consumption and saving and the information content of preliminary economic data. His research has been published extensively in distinguished academic journals, such as the Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic and Business Statistics, and The Energy Journal. He also has written several textbooks in English and Norwegian and headed Norges Bank Watch for 2007. |
